Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 on September 17 at Yashobhoomi, the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), in Dwarka, New Delhi. The three-day conference and exhibition will continue until September 19, bringing together leading stakeholders from the global semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.
Jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and SEMI, the global semiconductor industry association, SEMICON will focus on strengthening India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain.
With the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem,” SEMICON India 2026 will bring together government representatives, industry leaders, investors, researchers, startups, academics and students to discuss opportunities and challenges across the semiconductor sector.
India’s Semiconductor Mission Enters a New Phase
India’s semiconductor ambitions have gained significant momentum under the Semicon India Programme. Twelve semiconductor projects have been approved under Semicon 1.0, with three projects already commencing commercial production.
The Union Cabinet has also approved Semicon 2.0, the next phase aimed at accelerating the development of a robust, resilient and globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem in India.
The development is expected to strengthen domestic manufacturing, improve supply-chain resilience and advance the country’s broader Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. SEMICON will provide an important platform for showcasing these developments.
Focus on Research, Design and Innovation
Alongside manufacturing, the government is placing strong emphasis on semiconductor research, design and innovation. State-of-the-art electronic design automation tools have been made available to more than 332 academic institutions and 105 startups.
Under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, 24 startups have been approved, enabling Indian innovators to develop products and technologies for critical applications.
These initiatives aim to strengthen the entire semiconductor value chain, covering research, chip design, manufacturing, supply chains, electronics production and talent development.
500+ Exhibitors to Showcase Global Ecosystem
SEMICON India 2026 is expected to attract more than 500 exhibitors representing the global semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.
The exhibition will feature over 240 international companies, more than 150 internationally renowned speakers, delegations from over 40 countries and more than 15,000 square metres of exhibition space.
The event will also feature six country pavilions and 10 state government pavilions, along with a dedicated Startup Pavilion and Innovation Showcase.
A Startup Pitch Competition, Student Hackathon and Workforce Development Pavilion will provide opportunities for emerging innovators, students and professionals to connect with industry leaders.
Wide Range of Conference Sessions
The conference programme will cover manufacturing and technology, artificial intelligence and digital transformation, supply chains, chemicals, gases and materials, government policies, sustainability and ESG.
Other key themes will include product creation and design, startups and innovation, talent and skilling, India brands and market development, and leadership and strategic forums.
Six international country roundtables will encourage global collaboration. Dedicated sessions on women’s empowerment and leadership and workforce development will also focus on creating a diverse and future-ready workforce.
A special session titled “Stronger Together: Industry Associations Collaborating for India’s ESDM Growth” will examine ways to strengthen India’s electronics system design and manufacturing ecosystem.
Government Highlights India’s Semiconductor Progress
MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan said growing participation in SEMICON reflects increasing confidence in the government’s semiconductor policies and programmes.
He highlighted that three of the 12 projects approved under Semicon 1.0 have commenced commercial production and said Semicon 2.0 would further strengthen India’s commitment to developing a robust and resilient ecosystem.
SEMI President and CEO Ajit Manocha said India has the speed, ambition, talent and long-term vision needed to thrive as a major semiconductor hub.
He said India’s opportunity is not simply to join the global supply chain but to become an integral part of it.
India’s Semiconductor Demand Expected to Double
ISM CEO and MeitY Additional Secretary Amitesh Kumar Sinha said SEMICON India 2026 will connect international companies, Indian manufacturers, policymakers, investors and supply-chain partners.
He noted that global semiconductor demand is expected to increase from around $1 trillion to $2 trillion, while India’s semiconductor requirement is projected to grow from approximately $100 billion to $200 billion.
SEMI India and IESA President Ashok Chandak said the event reflects India’s evolution towards a comprehensive and globally competitive semiconductor value chain.
The new “Sand to Silicon to Systems” Value Chain Experience will showcase capabilities across the ecosystem and highlight India’s progress from building credibility to demonstrating capability.
SEMICON to Drive Investment and Collaboration
SEMICON India 2026 is expected to serve as a major platform for investment, technological collaboration, innovation and talent development. Participation from global companies, governments, startups, researchers and investors will create opportunities for partnerships across the sector.
The government’s semiconductor strategy, supported by Semicon 1.0, Semicon 2.0, design incentives, research programmes and international partnerships, represents a major push to establish India as a stronger player in the global chip economy.
As India works towards becoming a trusted global hub for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, SEMICON is positioned to accelerate collaboration, investment and technological growth.
