The controversy surrounding the alleged misappropriation of donations collected at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has taken another significant turn, with former Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra General Secretary Champat Rai stating that he will respond to all allegations only after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) submits its final report. His remarks come amid growing public and political scrutiny over the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities involving temple donations.
Speaking on the issue, Rai said he would present a detailed, point-by-point response once the investigation reaches its conclusion. He maintained that commenting before the completion of the inquiry would be inappropriate and stressed that the truth should emerge through the official investigative process rather than speculation.
Investigation into donation handling continues
The Uttar Pradesh government had constituted a Special Investigation Team after allegations surfaced regarding the alleged theft and misuse of cash donations made by devotees at the Ram Temple. The probe has focused on the collection, counting, storage, and accounting of offerings received at the temple.
Investigators have examined financial records, questioned several individuals associated with temple operations, and reviewed security arrangements to determine how the alleged irregularities occurred. Authorities have also looked into internal procedures to identify possible lapses in oversight and accountability.

Rai declines to engage in public debate

Trust Treasurer Govind Dev Giri stated that Rai had placed trust in certain individuals who allegedly betrayed that confidence. He described the matter as one that remains under investigation and urged restraint until the official findings are released.
The Trust has also reiterated that it remains committed to ensuring transparency in financial management and is cooperating fully with investigators. Recent administrative changes, including leadership restructuring, are being viewed as part of broader efforts to restore confidence in the institution.
Political reactions intensify
The donation controversy has triggered strong political reactions. Opposition parties have questioned the handling of temple funds and demanded greater transparency in the investigation. Some leaders have called for the publication of the SIT report and sought further judicial oversight of the probe.
The ruling BJP, meanwhile, has accused opposition parties of politicising the issue and attempting to exploit an ongoing criminal investigation for electoral gains. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has defended the government’s handling of the case while criticising opposition attacks over the controversy.
The issue has evolved into a major political flashpoint, extending beyond questions of financial management to become part of a broader debate over accountability and governance.
Focus shifts to final findings
With the SIT continuing its investigation, public attention is now focused on the final report, which is expected to clarify the extent of the alleged irregularities, identify those responsible, and recommend corrective measures.
For Champat Rai, the report will also provide the platform on which he intends to answer all accusations in detail. His statement suggests that he believes the official findings should form the basis of any public discussion rather than allegations made before the investigation is complete.
