GURUGRAM: A late-night police operation in Haryana’s Gurugram turned into a dramatic gunfight after members of an alleged criminal gang opened fire on a Crime Branch team, leaving a police officer injured before three suspects were arrested. The encounter, which took place during a planned operation based on intelligence inputs, ended with the accused sustaining gunshot injuries and being taken into custody. Authorities also recovered illegal firearms and ammunition from the spot.

Intelligence-Led Operation

According to police officials, the Crime Branch had received specific information about the movement of wanted criminals in the Gurugram area. Acting on the tip-off, a special team laid a trap at the identified location to intercept the suspects.

As police attempted to stop the vehicle carrying the accused, the suspects allegedly ignored warnings and opened indiscriminate fire in an attempt to escape. The officers immediately retaliated in self-defence, resulting in an exchange of gunfire that lasted several minutes before the accused were overpowered.

The operation was carried out with the objective of preventing the gang from executing further criminal activities in the National Capital Region.

Police Officer Suffers Bullet Injury

During the exchange of fire, a Crime Branch officer sustained a bullet injury. Fellow personnel quickly shifted the injured officer to a nearby hospital, where doctors stated that he was receiving treatment and was reported to be out of danger.

The swift medical response ensured that the officer received immediate care. Senior police officials later visited the hospital to enquire about his condition and praised the courage shown by the team during the operation.

Three Gang Members Arrested

Police confirmed that three alleged gang members were apprehended after the encounter. The accused also suffered bullet injuries during the exchange of fire and were admitted to a hospital under heavy security.

Investigators believe the suspects are linked to several criminal cases, including extortion, illegal possession of firearms, and violent offences. Authorities are now verifying their criminal backgrounds and examining their possible involvement in crimes committed across Haryana, Delhi and neighbouring states.

Further questioning is expected once doctors declare the accused medically fit for interrogation.

Weapons and Ammunition Recovered

Following the encounter, police conducted a detailed search of the crime scene and seized multiple illegal firearms, live cartridges and other materials believed to have been used by the gang.

Forensic experts were called to collect evidence, including empty bullet shells, fingerprints and other clues that could assist the investigation. The seized weapons will undergo ballistic examination to determine whether they were used in previous criminal incidents.

Police officials said the recovery could provide important leads into the activities of the gang and its wider network.

Investigation Expands

The Gurugram Police have registered relevant cases against the arrested accused, including charges related to attempted murder, illegal possession of weapons and assault on public servants.

Investigators are now trying to identify other associates who may have helped the suspects evade arrest in the past or supplied them with weapons and logistical support.

Police are also analysing mobile phones, digital records and call details recovered during the operation to trace the gang’s communication network.

Crackdown on Organised Crime

The latest encounter comes amid intensified efforts by Haryana Police to dismantle organised crime syndicates operating in the state. Law enforcement agencies have stepped up surveillance and intelligence gathering following a series of violent incidents involving gangsters in Haryana and the Delhi-NCR region.

Officials said coordinated operations are being carried out regularly to track wanted criminals, recover illegal weapons and prevent extortion, contract killings and other organised crimes.

Police maintained that such operations are essential to ensuring public safety and disrupting criminal networks before they can carry out planned offences.

Security Measures Intensified

Following the encounter, security has been tightened in and around the area where the gunfight occurred. Police teams remained at the scene for several hours to complete forensic examinations and gather evidence.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share information about suspicious activities. Officials said public support remains crucial in combating organised crime and maintaining law and order.

The investigation is continuing, and police expect further arrests as they examine the links between the detained suspects and other criminal groups operating in the region.
